One Christmas Carol
Charles Dickens interwove thirty-four characters to tell his incomparable tale of Ebenezer Scrooge's journey to Christmas. One man, Kellan Baker, interprets all thirty-four characters in a tour-de-force performance with three mis-matched chairs
and live sound-effects.
Kellan has performed in the Tournament of Kings show at the Excalibur in Las Vegas for fourteen years. He rides, jousts, sings and acts, much like other members of this super-theatrical family. One or more of the Bakers—Kellan, three brothers, and father Douglas H. Baker (who also wrote the script)—has performed in every Tournament since its opening in June 1990.
Another of Doug's scripts, One Christmas Carol, originated as an acting exercise for Doug, the Tournament's original Merlin. Fourteen years of twelve performances per week as Merlin left little time for developing new characters, the actor's craft, so Doug developed his character-rich version of Dickens' Carol. He also encouraged the performing talents of his four sons.
The 2011 Christmas holiday heralds Kellan's first season as Scrooge.
